AI can produce a confident, precise, entirely wrong number. It might misread a column, make an assumption you did not spell out, or simply calculate loosely. For casual exploration that is fine. For any figure you will put in a report, quote to a client or base a decision on, it is not. The discipline is straightforward: ask it to show its working, spot-check the important numbers yourself, and never paste a figure into something that matters without verifying it. Treat it as a sharp, fast analyst whose sums you always double-check.

Is it safe to upload company data to AI tools?

A spreadsheet is often the most sensitive thing in the building: customers, salaries, financials, health data. Before you upload anything to an AI tool, be sure you are allowed to, and that the tool's plan and settings protect it. This is exactly the sort of thing a sensible AI policy spells out, so nobody has to guess. When in doubt, anonymise the data or keep it out entirely.
