The Oxford AI School delivers AI training for businesses across Cheltenham and Gloucestershire, about an hour from our base in Oxfordshire. Sessions are hands-on from the first ten minutes, taught in plain English, and built around the tools your team already has: ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity.

Cheltenham is unusual. Thanks to the cyber and security cluster around GCHQ and the Golden Valley development, this is a town where people take data handling seriously by default. That makes for the best kind of AI training audience: sharp questions about where information goes, and no patience for anyone waving away the risk.

We train professional and financial services firms in the centre and Montpellier, cyber and technology businesses who want the commercial side of the house up to speed, hospitality and events businesses working around the racing calendar, and independent practices across Gloucester, Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds. Most attendees save 10 or more hours per person every week once AI becomes part of how they work.

What your team learns

Real skills, used the same day.

Every Cheltenham session is hands-on and tailored to your work. This is the kind of thing your team walks out able to do.

Write with less effort

  • Client letters, proposals and reports drafted in your own voice
  • Long documents cut down to the parts that need a decision
  • Meeting notes turned into a record and a set of actions

Get on top of data

  • Interrogate a spreadsheet in plain English, no formulas needed
  • Automate the weekly or monthly report nobody enjoys writing
  • Package your own expertise as prompts the team can reuse

Use AI safely

  • Which of ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity fits the job
  • Exactly what must never go into a public AI tool under UK GDPR
  • Verifying output properly, so accuracy is not a matter of trust
The tools

ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity.

We are not tied to a vendor. In a town that thinks hard about security, that matters: we cover what each tool does and where it keeps your data.

ChatGPT

The general-purpose starting point. Projects, custom instructions, file analysis and how to keep it accurate.

Claude

Strongest on long documents, careful drafting and anything where the wording carries risk.

Microsoft Copilot

The security-friendly option for Microsoft 365 businesses, working inside your existing tenancy and permissions.

Gemini

For Google Workspace teams, plus image and video generation for marketing and comms.

Perplexity

Research with sources attached, so an answer can be checked rather than believed.

The two skills that matter

Prompt engineering and context management.

These are the skills that separate teams getting real value from AI from teams who tried it once and gave up.

Prompt engineering

Prompt engineering is straightforward once someone shows you the shape of it: role, task, context, format. We teach those four parts, then use your own live work to practise until the first answer is usually the one you wanted. No prompt libraries to memorise, no magic words.

By the end of the day your Cheltenham team has a small library of prompts that genuinely work, written down and shared, so the quality of the output stops depending on who happens to be doing the task.

Context management

Context management is the discipline behind consistently good output. What you load into a conversation, what you deliberately withhold, when to start fresh, and how you keep source documents current. In Cheltenham this lands especially well, because managing context is really information governance applied to a chat window.

AI policy & governance

AI policy for Cheltenham businesses.

Your staff are already using AI. The only question is whether they are doing it inside rules you have written down.

In a town built around information security, an AI policy is not a nice-to-have. Staff are pasting work into tools that log it. Without written rules, your risk register has a hole in it and nobody has signed their name against it.

The AI Policy Workshop is a full day for up to ten people, in Cheltenham or online. It covers approved tools, what AI is and is not for, the UK GDPR data red line, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, rules by department and named gatekeepers. You leave with your own written AI acceptable use policy.

We also cover the governance side that boards and clients increasingly ask about: risk management, record-keeping, and how you would demonstrate that an AI-assisted decision was checked by a person. Our guides to AI governance, trustworthy AI and the NIST AI RMF and compliance, auditing and explainability set out the approach in full.

You leave with

  • A written AI acceptable use policy in your own words
  • An approved tool list, and a list of what is not approved
  • Your UK GDPR data red line, stated plainly
  • Rules by department, not one vague page for everyone
  • Named gatekeepers and a review date

Questions, answered

AI training in Cheltenham: FAQs.

Do you deliver AI training in person in Cheltenham?
Yes. We are based in Oxfordshire, roughly an hour from Cheltenham, and train at your premises across Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester and the Cotswolds. Live online delivery is available UK-wide.
How much does AI training in Cheltenham cost?
In-person team workshops for up to 8 people start at £899 +VAT. The half-day AI Basics Deep Dive is £1,599 +VAT in person or £1,499 +VAT online. The full-day AI Policy Workshop for up to 10 people is £2,599 +VAT in person, £2,499 +VAT online.
Can you cover AI governance as well as AI skills?
Yes, and in Cheltenham that combination is usually the point. Training teaches people what the tools can do. Governance sets the boundaries. We run both, either as separate sessions or as a policy workshop that includes the practical training.
Our staff are security-conscious and sceptical. Will that be a problem?
It is an advantage. Sceptical rooms ask the questions that make training useful: where does this data go, what is logged, what does the vendor keep. We answer those directly, including where the honest answer is that a tool is not appropriate for your work.
Is the training suitable for beginners?
Yes. Most sessions are basic AI training in plain English with no assumed technical knowledge, and everyone leaves having done real work with the tools rather than watching a demonstration.
