How to cancel Copilot Pro, in short
Cancel where you pay. Bought from Microsoft? Cancel in your Microsoft account. Bought through your phone's app store? Cancel with Apple or Google.
- Microsoft account (web): sign in at account.microsoft.com/services, find Copilot Pro under Services & subscriptions, choose Manage, then Cancel.
- iPhone or iPad: iOS Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, choose the Copilot or Microsoft plan, then Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play Store, profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, choose Copilot and cancel.
- Using Copilot through work? Your Microsoft 365 administrator manages that licence, not you.
Thinking of cancelling because Copilot is not earning its keep? It usually just needs a proper job inside the apps you already use. Our Microsoft Copilot Deep Dive module shows you how to get real value from Copilot in Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams before you decide.
First, check which Copilot you are paying for
“Copilot” can mean four different things: the free Copilot assistant, a personal Copilot Pro subscription, Copilot features bundled into a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plan, or a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence your employer pays for. This guide is for personal Copilot Pro.
Deleting the Copilot app or signing out does not cancel a paid plan. Only the account or store that billed you can stop it.
Not sure who is billing you? Check the receipt in your email. It will say Microsoft, Apple or Google Play, and that tells you exactly which set of steps below to follow.
| If your receipt says | Cancel here |
|---|---|
| Microsoft | account.microsoft.com → Services & subscriptions → Copilot Pro → Manage → Cancel |
| Apple | iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions |
| Google Play | Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions |
| Your employer | Your Microsoft 365 administrator manages the Copilot licence |
How to cancel Copilot Pro in your Microsoft account
- Go to account.microsoft.com/services, the Services & subscriptions page.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you used to buy Copilot Pro. If you have more than one, check the receipt.
- Find Copilot Pro and select Manage.
- Choose Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.
If you then see Turn on recurring billing and an expiry date, that is good news: Microsoft says the plan is set to expire on that date and will not renew.
How to cancel Copilot Pro on iPhone or iPad
- Open the iOS Settings app and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Choose Copilot, then Cancel Subscription and confirm.
The plan may be listed under a Microsoft name rather than Copilot. If nothing appears, Apple is not billing you, so check your Microsoft account instead.
How to cancel Copilot Pro on Android
- Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Copilot, tap Cancel subscription and confirm.
Make sure you are signed in to the Google account that made the purchase. Uninstalling the app does not stop a Play Store subscription.
Copilot Pro is not listed: what to check
Try the account shown on your receipt
The most common cause is being signed in to a different Microsoft account. Check your receipts and card statement, then sign in with the account that bought the plan.
Check whether it is a Microsoft 365 or work plan
Microsoft bundles Copilot features into some Microsoft 365 consumer plans, so you may be paying for a Microsoft 365 subscription rather than Copilot Pro. At work, Microsoft 365 Copilot is assigned by your organisation. Ask your administrator before removing a business licence your team relies on.
How to check the Copilot Pro cancellation actually worked
Do not trust the confirmation screen alone
Two minutes of checking now saves an irritating email to support next month.
Confirm it in three places
- The email. A cancellation confirmation should arrive from whoever billed you: Microsoft, Apple or Google Play. No email, no cancellation.
- The subscription screen. It should now show an end or expiry date rather than a renewal date.
- Your bank or card statement. Check on the day after the old renewal date would have fallen.
When does Copilot Pro access stop, and can you get a refund?
You can keep using Copilot Pro until the expiry date shown in your Microsoft account. After that, the free Copilot assistant is still available.
Refunds are discretionary rather than automatic. If you were charged unexpectedly, contact Microsoft support for a direct purchase, or Apple or Google for a store subscription. Give the date and amount, and say what you expected to happen.
Before you cancel Copilot: three things worth trying first
I train teams on Copilot most weeks. The people who get the most from it are the ones who use it where their work already lives.
1. Give it a real job in Outlook, Word or Teams
Ask it to summarise a long email thread, draft from a document you provide, or turn meeting notes into an action list. Check the output against the source. Copilot for Dummies is a quick primer if you are starting from scratch.
2. Check whether a different tool fits your work better
If your day is mostly writing and research rather than Microsoft documents, ChatGPT or Claude may suit you better. Our ChatGPT vs Copilot for business comparison sets out the trade-offs.
3. Check whether the free Copilot is enough for you
The free Copilot assistant covers a lot of everyday drafting and questions. See what is new in Copilot before you decide what you actually need.
What you keep after cancelling Copilot Pro
- Free Copilot. The free assistant on the web and in the app is still available.
- Your Microsoft account. Cancelling Copilot Pro does not close your account or touch your files.
- Other Microsoft 365 plans. Any separate Microsoft 365 subscription carries on unless you cancel it too.
- A way back. You can resubscribe any time from the same Services & subscriptions page.
Official Copilot Pro cancellation help
Billing menus change more often than most people expect. These official help pages were checked on 14 October 2026; if a label on your screen differs, follow the current wording in your account.
How to Cancel Microsoft Copilot Pro: frequently asked questions
How do I cancel my Microsoft Copilot Pro subscription?
Sign in to the Microsoft account you used to buy it at account.microsoft.com/services, find Copilot Pro under Services & subscriptions, choose Manage, then Cancel subscription and follow the prompts. If Apple or Google Play billed you, cancel through that store instead.
Can I cancel Copilot Pro from the Copilot app?
Not usually. A direct Microsoft purchase is cancelled from your Microsoft account's Services & subscriptions page. If you bought through Apple or Google Play, cancel in that store's subscriptions screen.
How do I cancel Copilot Pro on iPhone?
If Apple bills you, open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, select the Copilot or Microsoft plan and tap Cancel Subscription. If it is not listed, check your Microsoft account instead.
What does Turn on recurring billing mean?
Microsoft says it means the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew automatically. You can keep using it until then.
Is Microsoft 365 Copilot the same as Copilot Pro?
No. Copilot Pro is a personal subscription. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a business licence managed by your organisation, so ask your Microsoft 365 administrator about work access.
Can I get a refund for Copilot Pro?
Refunds are not automatic. Contact Microsoft support for a direct purchase, or Apple or Google for a store subscription, since the refund has to come from whoever took the money.
Should I cancel Copilot or learn to use it better?
If Copilot felt underwhelming, try using it inside Outlook, Word and Teams on real tasks for a week. Most of its value comes from working on your own documents, which a short training session can unlock quickly.
